Last week IE9 has been launched by Microsoft and this week  on 22nd March 2011 Mozilla will release its latest version of browser Firefox 4.

Firefox 4 is going to launch today 22nd Mar, 2011 with some new features compare to its previous version 3.6.

1.      Firefox4 coming with new design with excellent performance.

2.      Firefox4 is 6 – 10 times faster and quicker than previous version, you can feel its speed in startup time and  performance of webpage.

3.      One change which I like more in firefox4 is “Switch-to-Tab” option, when you are opening a new tab or typing some site in the address bar which is  already open on that window, Firefox will check to see if you already have that site open, if so you will be directed to the existing site tab so that you don’t end up opening a duplicate of  page of same site.

4.      Tap group: If you have too many tabs open on your window, Firefox4 will gave you the best option to organize tabs in to groups by name. To get started select the Tab Groups icon from the right side of the tabs, drag and drop your tabs into manageable groups and gave the related names to the groups or simply you can move to the group by right click any tab.

5.      All Tabs placed on the top of the address bar which gives you more space to make you easier to focus on the content of the sites.

6.      All Menu items are combined in a single button.

7.      Bookmark button have been placed on the upper right side of the page which combined all bookmarks in a single button. You can find your favorite links without getting bogged down.

8.      Stop, refresh and go buttons are combined in a single button and placed in right side of address bar.

9.      Privacy protection: Firefox4 has implemented “Do not track” option with this option user have right to keep his privacy (personal information like passwords, ID, name) to untraceable.

10. Firefox 4 will support for HTML5 video standards to play WebM format, where you can open and watch HD videos.

WebM means : A format design for web to open media files. WebM consists of video and Audio streams compressed with VP8 Video  codec and Vorbis Audio codec.

11. Firefox Sync: you will be able to open your pages, navigates those pages if you close your desktop and you want same environment when you open again any time without having to go and recreate every device you open subsequent to that.

12. Form complete: I hope this option will make you to save your valuable time. If you tired of typing out the same answers again and again, now Firefox4 has solution for that, when you are filling bank registration form Firefox4 will suggest you the information for each field based on your most common answers for similar fields in other forms.

13. Spell check: By using Firefox4 you will save your time and free of worrying of typos, A built-in- spell checker will works directly in the web pages.

14. Tags: if you forget the exact site name no need to worry. By labeling a site with names or categories that are related to site, like, you can name both www.yahoomail.com and www.gmail.com with the “mails” tag. When you enter “mails” in the address bar, both sites will be shown as results. Number of tags you can create and single site can have more than one tag.

15. Firefox4 is not available on Apple’s IPhone because of terms and conditions of Apple store, but it is available for Android mobiles.

Happy surfing. You can download Firefox 4 here.

IE9 Internet Explorer 9 Download & features

Friends,

Good news!! Microsoft has launched its latest browser, Internet Explorer 9 beta (IE9) on this March (15th March to be precise), and it’s packed with some great new features.

Rush to upgrade your older version of explorer with IE9, but careful before installing the IE9; check your operating system, if you are using XP, it will not work, as it only available on Windows Vista and Widows 7.

Here are some of the new features in IE9.

§  New interface : – no toolbars on top of the screen, Microsoft trying to learn from Firefox and Chrome and removed the excess stuff at the top of the screen which gives you more space to view web page.

§  Download monitor :- IE9 also has a new downloads manager which lets you monitor, pause, restart and cancel downloads.

§  Compatibility :- With IE9 Microsoft has target  on extending the browser’s compatibility with modern Web technologies such as HTML 5 and CSS3.

§  Faster :- Microsoft claims IE9 is faster and attractive than previous versions of Explorer because it maximizes your computer’s hardware components, specifically your graphics processing unit (GPU), instead of improving browser speed solely through software tweaks.

§  Sophisticated shortcuts : – IE9 includes the ability to create some peculiar shortcuts for sites such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter etc. Drag the Youtube URL to your program tray this creates an icon in your taskbar based on the site’s favicon (the little picture that sits next to the address bar). If a favicon is not available, then Windows uses the standard IE logo.

§  Jump lists :- New jumplist feature is a great addition to IE9. Once you’ve pinned a site such as Youtube, Twitter, Facebook or even Mywebexperience to your taskbar, just right-click on the icon to see a selection of shortcuts for that site. For example Right-click on Facebook, and you have rapid access to your Messages, friends list, Events and Request.

Internet Explorer 9 is available to download here.

Internet Security

Are you using Internet??? If Yes, have you think about security of your computer?? If not, you should.

Computer viruses and malware are rampant and it may cause you to lose your entire computer data if proper protection steps are not taken. Here are few important points to keep in mind:

1. Do not open any strange link or attachment which you received from unknown person. It may be virus which may install itself on your PC.

2. Make sure you have new updated antivirus software installed on your computer. This software must be able to scan your files and E-mails, as they received from others or downloaded from the internet, to help prevent malware reaching your computer. A little investment in Antivirus software goes long way. There are also companies providing free software for a limited trail period.

It is also important that to make sure that this anti-virus software updated frequently, to fix the actual engine and data base files ensuring they contain latest cures for new virus and torjans.

Following are the recommended Anti-virus software:

MacAfee (http://www.mcafee.com/us/ ),  Symantec (http://www.symantec.com/index.jsp ), Kaspersky( http://www.kaspersky.com/ ), Emisoft (http://www.emsisoft.com/en)

3. Update your Operating system (OS) with latest security patches. Microsoft Windows update the security features of their products continuously to cover any possible and actual loopholes.

4. Adjust the security level to medium of your browser (in Internet Explorer go to Tools, options and Security)

5. One more important thing, you should installed firewall software or use the native Windows firewall. A good firewall prevent unauthorized access to your computer from external source through internet, also give you additional protection against the more common Worms and Torjans. Only firewall is not enough to protect from virus problem, but when you use in conjunction with other security measures, will give you deeper system security and protection.

6. “Prevention is better than cure”. However you may still get virus no matter how strong is your security is, it is always able to have backup of your personnel data of your computer on weekly basis.

2.  Check your Internet connection speed. You will find many software on net to check your Internet speed, for your ready reference some of given below.

http://www.speedtest.net/,

http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/,

3.  Now compare the speeds from step 2 to step 1. If you are getting the speed as per you plan, do not go further, if you are not, go to the next step.

4.  In next step, Delete the cookies and History, this can be done easily by going to the Option under the tools tab in Internet Explorer (IE). Cookies are the files  website save on your computer for later access, when they buildup they actually slow down your  Internet and computer performance. In newer version of IE have the 5 different buttons for different things. you can delete all once by clicking on Delete all button.

There are so many spy-ware and Mal-ware programs, but two are my favorite (Spybot S&D & Ad-ware) doing this will not only increase your navigation speed, but it will also protect your computer.

Protecting Excel Cells and Worksheets

Protecting Excel Cells and Worksheets

  • Sometimes you want to give your Excel file to someone else and prevent them from changing the formulas for seeing some hidden cells.
  • Protecting a spreadsheet or workbook involves two steps.

-          Designating which cells to be locked or hidden.

-          Protecting the spreadsheet or workbook.

  • Note several weird peculiarities:

-          The default for all cells in a spreadsheet if LOCKED. So if you want the receiver of your worksheet to change the content of a cell, unlock the cell before protecting the spreadsheet.

-          The formulas in a cell can be seen even if the spreadsheet is locked – UNLESS you hide that cell before protecting the spreadsheet.

  • To lock/unlock and hide/unhide a cell, select the cell(s) and select Format: Cell. Select the Protection tab when the dialog box appears.
  • To protect /unprotect a spreadsheet, select Tools: Protection: Protect Sheet.
  • Note: you can specify a password that can be entered to unprotect the sheet and allows these changes.

Note: Excel has a long history, and it keep on to develop and change. therefore, the tips provided above do not necessarily apply to all versions of Excel.

Excel Sheets Navigation

Each of us who are using M.S. Excel knows that we can activate a different sheets in a workbook by clicking its sheet tab left side bottom of the workbook. Many of us also know that you can press Ctrl-Page Up to activate the previous sheet, and Ctrl-Page Down to activate the next sheet.
But if your workbook contains more than one sheets, and not all of the sheets’ tabs fit on the screen, you may find it unexciting to scroll through the tabs or use the keyboard or mouse to activate a long distance sheet.
Here’s a little-known trick that will allow you to bypass repeated scrolling or typing: Display a pop-up list of sheet names by right-clicking one of the arrows to the left of the sheet tabs that are located at the bottom of the worksheet window (see the picture below). Select a sheet from the list, and you’re there in a flash.
